New Features - What's Arrived!

Introduction

This is a new section which explains the recent work and improvements that have happened to the sites and the reports.

Cherry Picking Tool Update

MrClox has kindly updated his Cherry Picking tool and the new version is available for download.

Details of where to download it can be seen at the foot of the Cherry Picking method page.

CSV File Updates

The ratings CSV has been updated. Over the past week there have been three updates to the ratings CSV file.

Two of these changes add the list of all the system names to the CSV file (and also to the ratings) so one can see at a glance which horse(s) we like or don't like in a race to get an overview of our forecast in that race. The second of these two adds the time in 24 hour format of the time of the race.

The last of the updates adds ten fields to the CSV file. These concern the Trainer/Jockey/Course combination (TJC) and how they fare in terms of runs, wins, profit, strike rate and return on investment (or more likely not).

There's a second set of TJC data where the same race type (eg hurdle, chase etc) and either a handicap or a stakes calculation to match the race in particular.

All these figures are taken from a five year rolling period.

Top Rated Selections

We have just posted an Excel file showing the Top Rated selections for the past year or so.

Please download the Excel file and have a play with it. The figures look rather interesting for a few combinations. There are a number of suggestions on the second sheet.

Weak Favourites Reports

We have added a Largest Profit Drop facility to the Weak Favourites result reports.

We considered adding something which showed the Longest Winning and Longest Losing runs but decided that these don't show the whole picture. So we came up with the rather simple Largest Profit Drop.

What this tells you is what has been the worst drop during the system's history. This would help to tell you how big a staking bank one could need and to see how volatile the system is. For example, if a system has a Largest Profit Drop of 60 then this means that if you started at the worst possible time when the system was peaking and continued until the worst possible time your largest loss would be 60 points.

This example is of the Value For Money lays to a maximum of 7.0 (see the results here) which shows that there is the Largest Profit drop of 58.36. If we look at the graph then we can see this drop (indicated in the box) within the context of the results.

Value For Money Lays, to a maximum of 7.0. 30/10/2006 - 30/12/2007 (4,589 selections)

Every system has its peaks and troughs and this is a true indication of what could have happened and, essentially, a fairer and more accurate reporting figure than using Longest Losing or Longest Winning Runs.

More importantly, this figure helps to put any losing day's results into perspective.

Trainer Recent Form

Trainer Recent Form is a new feature which has been added to the ratings (at the moment within the summary and the detailed ratings).

This shows each trainer's results over the last 20 runs and the last fortnight and also the last four weeks. This is useful to see if a trainer is doing well lately or not. This information is also given on both web sites as an XML feed. The display on the sites is not available just yet but will be presented soon.
