UK Horse Racing Receives a Four Star Rating!

28th June 2004

The first edition of Racing Ahead contains a review of three sites on the internet which offer comprehensive ratings. UK Horse Racing was one of those three sites and we received a rating of Four Stars.

The review was written by John Anthony and appeared in the June 2004 issue of Racing Ahead.

Review Content

www.ukhorseracing.co.uk backs up its excellent free features with a nice looking, clean design.

But that counts for nothing unless the ratings are up to scratch and, again we are not disappointed. At first glance, the figures are much more complex than our first two sites [which were also reviewed]. But any confusion is easily cleared up by using the key provided at the end of each day's figures.

The ratings come as a pdf download, which makes them much easier to print out. Once loaded, a bevy of information fills the screen. First there is a master rating for each horse. Then comes detail of days since the last outing and number of career runs.

Next is a figure which I find useful - a regression figure. This shows if a horse's ratings have been increasing or decreasing. Look for horses with positive readings in this column, or go against those with minus numbers. Then comes the raw rating, which is the basic number before adjustments for today's conditions.

Next comes a rating for a jockey and trainer, with a class figure for the horse and a speed figure. An example of how the compilers of the ratings have considered everything comes next with the "alarms". This column highhights any worry about each horse performing to their rating in this race.

Last, by by no means least, comes a value price. Debate has raged for years about what value means. Whether you are in the "only horse is value - the winner" camp, or like to play the bigger prices, everyone needs to get value for their bets.

There is money to be made backing the top three selections if they are the value price or bigger, which only adds to the site's value.

Add in some other useful features, like systems and jockey data, and you've got a pretty impressive package. Although the site is nicely designed, the ratings are not that easy to find. The quickest way is to scroll down the home page and find the 'selections' link.

This brings up a screen with the day's system selections. Then click on 'PDF Ratings Printouts' and then 'Summary' - this brings up the ratings-packed PDF.

VERDICT: Great detail in figures, easy to print out, value prices a bonus. More features than some commerical packages.

We would like to point out that since this review we have made it a lot easier to find our ratings. The link to the ratings page is from each and every menu bar which appears on every page.
