It's only been a few days since the last newsletter and it was good to see that it was well received. By that I mean that no-one wrote back asking to cancel the newsletter and since then we've had a few more people signing up.
We've been busy on the racing site and we thought that you would like to hear of the changes afoot.
At last. We have got the Weak Favourites site up and running. Most of the site's structure is there and there could well be a lot more to come. You know how we seem to continually add stuff to our sites.
At the moment on the Weak Favourites site we are listing the Lay-0 and the Lay-1 selections. These are the favourites, or expected favourites, of a race which we think are particularly weak. In fact, they will have failed all or all bar one, of the filters which we use in the UK Horse Racing Model.
These selections will be placed on the Weak Favourites site each evening at the same time as the selections and ratings get posted on the UK Horse Racing site (that's, of course, providing that the FTP and selection page generation code works properly!). But it will mean that you will get the lay selections earlier in the evening rather than having to wait until the next morning and hunt for the lays on the UK Horse Racing site.
What will arrive in the next day or so (hopefully for Friday's selections) is a list of the Complete Lays. These are the total list of all horses which fail all, or all but one, filters and often a good profit can be made by just simply looking for second favourites which are, effectively, useless and are second in the market to an odds-on favourite which looks strong. So, in these cases laying these other horses is a good move.
The selections for the Weak Favourites can be had past the user log-in page. For the remainder of August 2004 these selections will be free and access is open to anyone who wishes to use the Login name of August and the password of 2004.
The Weak Favourites' members' page is at www.weakfavourites.co.uk/Members.asp.
Despite the fact that Dave and I have been busy on various aspects of the site requests have been coming in for additional information to be displayed on the ratings printouts.
Not only that, but Dave is working on some analysis for jockey's abilities and is investigating some interesting looking patterns. As soon as I begin to understand what he is up and what this accomplishes then there will be extra information and/or filters for the Model.
Though this is unpleasant news about the racing world; we feel that we have to let you be aware of a new mailshot which is has been sent out to lots of potential 'investors'. This is an investment scheme which invites you to send in some money for some experts to invest upon your behalf.
Though we can't identify the name of the outfit just yet for legal reasons but we do strongly advise everyone not to use these investment schemes. These have a history of causing grief as the money invested seemingly runs out. Of course what actually happens is that after the racing a few losing selections are chosen and then the stake moneyis pocketed by your investment experts before vanishing off into the sunset.
So, in short. Don't give other people your money to invest. There is little chance that you will see it or hear from them again.
Yours sincerely,
The UK Horse Racing Team
