David-1 Back - A System

This system uses the UK Horse Racing ratings. The Summary ratings will suffice.

This system is on its second version and we expect that updates to it will follow. Certainly this is very profitable though there can be dry spells.

On the forum this system is known as 'Top 10'; the reason for which would become clear.

The rules:
(1)If the first horse is ten points clear of the field - I record the result but do not back it
(2)If the first horse is ten points clear of the third horse - I back the top 2
(3)If the first horse is ten points clear of the fourth horse - I still back only the top 2
(4) I will only back UK races.
(5) If the actual price is greater than 25 for one of the two horses selected I will ignore the race

It is advised to omit Irish racing (again because of the markets) and if can't get a 30% return on the stakes then the race is also to be omitted because of the poor return.

Update: 15th July, 2006
The following questions were asked as a form of clarification.

Question

Just trying to understand the David-1 Backs system and its rules. I can't get the rules to match up with today's selections.

By "points" does he mean UKHR rating? By "clear of the field" does he mean more than 10 points higher than every other horse in race or the lowest of the race? If the former then 2 and 3 don't make sense (any horse that is 10 points more than all other horses, must be 10 points more than the third and fourth horse).

Answer

Yes, points means the ratings score.

Okay, if one horse is 10 pounds (that's the unit of the points) clear of the rest David doesn't back them. So the top rated at 100 won't be backed if the second rated is, say, at 87. This is in case a glitch puts a horse too far clear and gives it an abnormal figure.

If the top rated is 100 and the second rated is, say, at 92 and the third rated is at 87 then the top two will be backed.

And if the top four horses are rated at 100, 98, 92 and 87 then rather than backing the top three he will only back the top two.

Update: 6th Jun3, 2012
Two simple angles to do systematically include David-1 Backs GB only where the alarm value has a minus or where there is a 10% of greater stalls bias. Both of these provide a good strike rate and return.
